Wednesday – October 12th – 1 Peter 4:7 -----
4:7) The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
THOSE WHO FIND THEIR SENSE OF SECURITY IN CHRIST ARE NOT EASILY SHAKEN BY CIRCUMSTANCES OR OTHER PEOPLE’S OPINION OF THEM.*
Welcome to Wednesday. Our pick verse today is one of those great life lessons that you might hear from a wise grandparent or a loving parent. When our eyes are focused on Jesus it becomes very difficult to let the ways of the world into our heart, mind, and soul. However, difficult is different than impossible because of the human factor. Because we are under the constant temptations of the devil we can be easily distracted and lose focus on Jesus. Even a millisecond of a glance away from Jesus opens the door for us to lose perspective. I am reminded of Peter walking on the water. With his eyes focused on Jesus he was accomplishing the impossible until he was distracted by the impossibility of what he was doing. When he took his eyes of Jesus he was overcome by the circumstances and situation he was in. Neither human opinion nor life’s challenges should be able to shake our faith in the power of God.
In our pick verse for today, Peter challenges the faithful to be prepared in their relationship with Jesus as if the end of the world is tomorrow. The first century believers were convinced and convicted that Jesus’ return would happen shortly after his ascension into Heaven. Peter is writing this letter approximately thirty years after Jesus went back to Heaven to calm growing concerns and prevent apathy from settling into the church. While we have no idea when Jesus will return, successive generations following the first century have each allowed a little more laxness to creep into their urgency to share the gospel. Regardless of when that day comes, we will be ready for the end if we keep focused on our relationship with God through serious and watchful prayer.
Blessings
