1:6) If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
CHRISTMAS IS THE SEASON TO FOCUS ON THE GREATEST GIFT OF ALL.*

Happy and blessed Sunday to you! Today signals the beginning of the final week of the Advent season with the lighting of the candle of “love”. John 3:16 says that God so love you and me that Jesus came to our world to save us from eternal separation. Our inspirational thought fits nicely with the Christmas Eve message in our Advent series – “Through The Eyes Of A Child” where we will once again celebrate the “Greatest Present Ever”.  Today in this series we will address the joy of the “Greatest Family Gathering Ever” This week consider spending some time praying for those who have yet to open the greatest gift of all.

In our pick verse today, John continues to speak into Jesus being the light of the world. If we claim to have a relationship with God, we must put aside our sinful ways of living. To claim that we belong to Him but then to go out and life for ourselves is hypocrisy. Jesus will expose that darkness in us and then judge us on our intentional deceit. In this verse John is confronting the first of three claims of the false teachers: that we can have fellowship with God and still walk in the darkness of sin. False teachers who thought that the physical body was evil or worthless taught one of two approaches to behavior. First, they insisted on denying bodily desires through rigid discipline. Second, they approved of gratifying our every physical lust because the body was going to be destroyed at our death. Obviously the second approach was way more popular. Here John is saying that no one can claim to be a Christian and still live with evil and immorality in their lives. We can’t love God and chase after sin at the same time.

Blessings
