TELEVISION HAS TURNED THE FAMILY CIRCLE INTO A SEMICIRCLE.
Happy Sunday to you! Another great weekend has arrived for us to enjoy. And unlike Friday’s reminder that we are still hanging out in February, today should provide ample opportunity to carve some quality outdoor time. This Sunday at SunRise, we will have a special opportunity to be encouraged through the many mission connections we have with our SunRise partners. Being “in mission” is one of the core pillars of having a faith in Christ. Mission separates itself from doing good deeds by intentionally including the gift of Jesus as the primary reason we reach out to others. Without offering the saving graces of Jesus we would be just another civic service club fulfilling an obligation to serve.
In our pick verse today, we wrap up this first letter of John to early Christians scattered throughout the Roman Empire. In typical John fashion, this last verse carries as much punch as every one of his other verses. In challenging believers to resist idols, John is primarily referring to ideas that are contrary to the teachings contained within God’s Holy Word, particularly flawed teachings that deny the full deity and humanity of Jesus. A relationship with God the father can only be achieved through a relationship with His Son. We are to keep ourselves pure and holy by guarding diligently against any false teachings that would cause us to drift from the message of salvation through Jesus.
