Welcome to Thursday! A little look ahead at the SunRise calendar finds me excited about the Youth Bake Sale that benefits their summer mission trip to Kentucky. While the bake sale is still a couple of Sundays off (March 5th), the sign up to bring items is fast approaching the deadline. If you would like to bake before you buy, you can go to the “events” page on either the SunRise Church App or website to sign-up to participate. What a great opportunity to show off your favorite dessert while helping our youth grow in their faith walk.
In our pick verse today, John introduces his first of two subjects in this book. In the next three verses John will teach on the joy of Christian love. Biblical scholars are unsure where exactly the primary readers of this letter were located, so there is also uncertainty if John had been instrumental in planting this church. Yet, our verse today indicates that John had a both previous knowledge of their early days as Christians and a present awareness of where their spiritual faith journey had taken them. It was a joy for John to be connected to stable and mature Christians who were presently walking in the truth of God’s word, God’s way, God’s will, and God’s when, even years after they came to accept Jesus as their savior. The goal of every believer is to be in constant growth mode throughout their life. When we fail to grow, we fail in serving God to the fullest of our ability. How might you grow today, this week?
