1:12) I have much more to say to you, but I don’t want to do it with paper and ink. For I hope to visit you soon and talk with you face to face. Then our joy will be complete.

Welcome to Wednesday and the first day of the month of March. This new month signals the beginnings of lots of great events. First, we give a quick glance to the old saying that if March comes in like a lamb it will go out like a lion. Well, the groundhog was not exactly correct so I am not placing a whole lot of bank on today setting an opposite reaction for the end of the month. Also, March re-launches the Journey Of A Lifetime study tonight with an intro to the new testament. And the best of all March 1st events is opening day of trout season in Missouri state trout parks. If you have never seen an opening day frenzy, then take the time to google Bennett Springs state park and check out the mass of people standing with their toes over the edge of the waterfall. Happy March 2023 my friends.
In our pick verses today, John concludes his second epistle with words of encouragement to his readers. John expresses his desire to meet with this unknown church congregation in person and calls it a mutual joy for all. The true joy of Christians is the assurance that they are united in their commitment to the truth about Jesus, and in their love for each other. John closes out this letter with the naming of the “elect sister”, which is probably a early Christian way of describing the church community to whom John was writing. Christians everywhere, throughout the ages, need to be connected like family in such a way that we see each other as co-workers of Christ and not as adversaries competing for new believers.
