1:1) The Elder, To the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth:

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
     UNDERSTANDING CAN WAIT; OBEDIENCE CAN’T.*

Happy Friday to you! What a great inspirational thought to end our week with. Probably every one of us would claim that we seek to understand the world around us – life, religion, relationships, etc. One of the potential drawbacks from constantly seeking more and more understanding is that we often run out of runway before we have a chance to use our newfound knowledge. God’s word contains an abundance of wisdom just waiting for us to discover, and then put it into practice. Obedience is a mark of a growing spiritual maturity in a person’s discipleship journey. How easily does obedience to God’s word, God’s will, God’s way, and God’s when come for you?

In our pick verse for today we open with John’s words of greeting between him and a believer named Gaius. This is similar to the self-title John used to open his second epistle. It is interesting to note that when John is writing this letter the term “elder” could easily be attributed to him being in his early nineties. John also has rightly earned this title by virtue of being an apostle of Jesus and an early leader in the Christian movement. The primary recipient of this is identified as being a beloved disciple. Four times in this letter John calls him “beloved”. John knows him personally and loves him in the Lord. John also establishes that his love for Gaius is based on both their understanding and acceptance of sound doctrine. Gaius met the trifecta of Christian discipleship – he stood for the truth, he spoke the truth, and he worked for the truth. This is a great gauge to use for our own personal discipleship. Are all three of these truth-tellers apparent in our lives?

Blessings
