Thursday – March 9th – 3 John 1:9-10 -----
1:9) I wrote to the church, but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, does not receive us.
10) Therefore, if I come, I will call to mind his deeds which he does, prating against us with malicious words. And not content with that, he himself does not receive the brethren, and forbids those who wish to, putting them out of the church.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
IF SEEING IS BELIEVING, THE TRUE SKEPTIC REFUSES TO LOOK.*
Happy Thursday to you! Our SunRise ministry reminder for today focuses on the SunRise Membership Pathway Class scheduled for Monday March 13th beginning at 6:30pm. This informational class is for anyone interested in holding future membership in SunRise Church. Any current SunRise UMC member who would like to be a member of the new SunRise Church will need to attend one of these classes. We will discuss our theological beliefs, organizational structure, and membership commitment at this meeting. You can sign up for the class by accessing the “events” page on either our SunRise Church App or the SunRise Church website.
In our pick verses today, John shifts is comments from lifting up the ministry work and hospitality displayed by his friend Gaius to now focuses on just the opposite. In contrast to Gaius, Diotrephes refused to show hospitality to traveling missionaries. His problem, from John’s observation, was an overabundance of self-pride – he loved flaunting the superiority of his position within the church. The unsanctified attitude of Diotrephes was reflected in and through his actions. He had rejected the authority of John, spoke malicious words against him, refused to receive the evangelists John had sent, and hindered others in their accepting the evangelists. John states that he plans to deal with Diotrephes when he visits the church. John makes it easy for us to compare the attitude of believers to gauge their selfish or selfless heart toward serving others. How would others assess your attitude toward serving?
Blessings
