TO HATCH DESPAIR, JUST BROOD OVER YOUR TROUBLES.*

Welcome to Wednesday! As we reach the mid-point of Holy Week let me take the opportunity to personally invite you to join us for Good Friday services at 7pm. This is a time of reflection and the opportunity to set aside the distractions of our lives to intentionally focus on the willingness of Jesus to sacrifice His life for our sinful actions. Any celebration of the empty tomb on Easter Sunday is greatly enhanced when we experience the emptiness of the disciples at the death of Jesus.

In our pick verse for today, John begins this section of letters addressing real and current problems of seven first century churches located in the province of Asia Minor (modern day Turkey). And at the same time the issues in these churches have plagued churches through the history of Christianity. The opening begins with an acknowledgement of God’s grace covering every word of this letter. God’s grace is best defined as His unsolicited generosity which brings the harmonious completeness of peace to those who draw their sustenance from Him. The tri -fold greeting of “from” signifies that all three members of the Trinity are the source of this divine blessings. The designation of “Him Who Is” can be traced to God’s description of Himself at the burning bush in Exodus 3:14. The seven spirits mentioned in this verse is often considered a figure of speech denoting the presence and perfect power of the Holy Spirit. John’s readers can easily grasp the importance of this letter of instruction and prophecy as it is fully validated by God’s rich blessings.

Blessings
