Happy Easter Sunday to you and all of your loved ones. Today we celebrate the most holy day on the church calendar and the most important day in the history of the world. Yes, our calendars are formed around the birth of Jesus, but it is the resurrection of Jesus that punctuates God’s plan of salvation for those who believe in Jesus. His victory over sin and death opens the way for us to walk away from the bondage of our sins and into the glory of God’s presence in Heaven. Faith requires us to accept the illogical presumption that a person can be raised from the dead. Yet, today we celebrate an empty tomb, not of man’s accomplishments, but by the power of the God of creation. Jesus’ resurrection paves the way for our own bodily resurrection when He returns at the end of the ages. And don’t be misled the tomb on that first Easter morning was empty, is still empty today, and will be every day into the future. Happy Resurrection Day!
Our pick verse today is the perfect scripture to accompany the celebration of Easter Sunday. John’s designation of Jesus being the Alpha and Omega, the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet, establishes Jesus presence in Heaven at the time of creation and at the end of the ages. Jesus was not a knee-jerk reaction to the conditions of the world two thousand years ago. Jesus was part of God’s plan of salvation for humanity before Genesis 1:1 recorded that there even was a beginning. God’s plans are perfect and the will of God remains steadfast despite our constant human interferences. God is the sovereign Lord of all that happens from the beginning of time to the end of time. Those of us who believe in Jesus live under God’s promise of life eternity in Heaven. That my friends is what Easter is all about.
