1:11) saying, "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last," and, "What you see, write in a book and send it to the seven churches which are in Asia: to Ephesus, to Smyrna, to Pergamos, to Thyatira, to Sardis, to Philadelphia, and to Laodicea."

Welcome to Wednesday! Mid-week reflection time and a time to check over what still needs to be accomplished before the weekend. I needed today’s inspirational thought. What a great reminder to follow up on yesterday’s thought about who is in charge. Today, we take it to the next step and incorporate prayer as our primary means of changing the world. I am personally aware of times when my best efforts to evangelize have been met with harsh resistance, only to them pivot away from conversation with the person and turn to conversation with God. I have experienced gigantic walls of opposition tumble like the walls of Jericho, and as a result people open their hearts to receive Jesus. What I couldn’t do, was done by God through prayer. Who might you be praying for today that needs to know the grace and love of Jesus?
In our pick verse today, John records the words of Jesus as the real source of the prophecy in this book. Jesus instructs John to write all that he sees and all that he hears within this special vision from God. The seven churches listed in this verse will each receive their own personalized letter from Jesus. They are listed in clockwise order, moving north from Ephesus, a natural direction for delivery in the seven postal districts of ancient Rome. I often wonder what Jesus would write to the individual churches of today. As we prepare to read what is written about each church take a moment to ponder where your church name could be substituted for one of these seven churches. Maybe even more important where could your name overlay the message to one or more of these churches?
