Monday – April 17th – Revelation 1:16 -----
1:16) He had in His right hand seven stars, out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
THERE ARE SOME CHRISTIANS WHO CAN’T BE CALLED PILGRIMS BECAUSE THEY NEVER MAKE ANY PROGRESS.*
Hello Monday and hello to the official tax-is-due day in the US. Our inspirational thought for today makes a play on the great 1678 Christian classic Pilgrim’s Progress written by John Bunyan. We are challenged by this thought today to inventory our Christian journey to see if we are indeed walking or contently standing in place. Many folks come to Christ and view their future as couch-time lounging as they wait for their Lord to return. But the scriptures give us a far different understanding of the Christian faith. We are to be making forward “progress” as we learn and grow in our relationship with Jesus. Our Monday question is where would you be placed on a scale of your personal “pilgrim’s progress”?
In our pick verse for today, John concludes his symbolic description of his encounter with Jesus at the beginning of his revelation vision. Today’s description includes Jesus holding seven stars in His right hand which symbolizes the power he has over the destiny of the seven churches of this letter, as well as the destiny of every church in the future. The power of God’s word is equated to the skill and precision of a two-edge sword. Such a sword has the power to defend the innocent, and the power to exert judgement on the disobedient. Finally, John sees Jesus’ countenance shine with divine glory reminiscent of the Shekinah Glory radiating from God throughout the Old Testament. As these verses conclude John’s readers will be convicted that what they are about to hear is the rightly discerned word of God for them. We too can be assured that what we have in scripture is God’s perfect word for/to us today.
Blessings
