Saturday – May 6th – Revelation 2:17 -----
2:17) “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. To everyone who is victorious I will give some of the manna that has been hidden away in heaven. And I will give to each one a white stone, and on the stone will be engraved a new name that no one understands except the one who receives it.
The Daily Walk Bible Inspirational thought for today:
TOO MANY PEOPLE PRAY LIKE LITTLE CHILDREN WHO KNOCK ON DOORS, THEN RUN AWAY.*
Good Saturday to you! I hope that you have some exciting outdoor plans to accompany this beautiful day that God has given us. Tomorrow is our fourth week in our SunRise series – “The Incredible Absolutes”. We are building on the foundations of the absolutes of the Christian faith, those non-negotiable beliefs that keep us grounded in the truth of scripture. This week we will explore the certainty of God’s promise of our personal victory over sin and death. In one of the great hymns of the church we sing about our victory in Jesus. The premise of that song is that through Jesus’ death and resurrection He has won a victory over our ultimate enemy’s sin and death. Join us this week either in-building or online.
In our pick verse today, Jesus brings to a close his words for the believers in Pergamum. Jesus’ call to perseverance is reinforced by the promise of three gifts symbolic of the faithful Christian’s heavenly reward. 1) Hidden manna connects to the Old Testament where God provided through Moses the manna in the wilderness brought a physical blessing to the wandering Israelites. 2) The white stone is a widely used symbol for victory or a special privilege, in this verse it points to their admission to eternal rewards. 3) The Bible promises that those who gain Heaven will be given a new name in glory in the presence of God. This name that “no one knows” acknowledges that each believer has a unique relationship to Jesus and a unique part to play in God’s eternal kingdom.
Blessings
