A very blessed and holy Sunday to you! If you are reading this before today’s worship services, I want to remind you of two very big events happening today. First, our new schedule for Holy Communion will be celebrated at both in-building services. Because of on-going challenges to keep our inventory of individual communion sets at a comfortable level, we have decided to celebrate Holy Communion on a once-a-month basis with the other weeks offering communion in the prayer chapel. A second big event will take place at the 9:45am service with the annual recognition of, and prayer over, our high school seniors. I am especially honored to be part of this special recognition since this class of seniors were born during my first year at SunRise. Hope to see you today at our celebration services.
In our pick verse today, John begins writing down Jesus’ letter to the fourth of the seven churches of the Revelation. Thyatira is located inland from the Pergamos in what is today the central part of Turkey. During the Roman era, (1st century AD), Thyatira was famous for its dyeing facilities and was a center of the purple cloth trade of where Lydia (Acts 16) was originally from. Jesus makes it known to these believers that through his “eyes like a flame of fire” He is able to see into our minds and hearts. Additionally, His feet as powerful as find brass points to the reality that He rules the world above all others.
