2:20) “But I have this complaint against you. You are permitting that woman—that Jezebel who calls herself a prophet—to lead my servants astray. She teaches them to commit sexual sin and to eat food offered to idols.

FREEDOM DECAYS AS MATERIAL SOCIETY EXPANDS.*
Good Tuesday to you! Our inspirational thought for today has a strong tie to the focus of the current SunRise series – The Incredible Absolutes”. As we allow ourselves to be overly influenced by the shape of our culture and society, we can be distracted from sticking to the foundations of our faith. Our freedoms are equally at risk when we forget the price that was paid by others for us to make all the many choices in our daily lives. However, when we become more focused on self, and less on serving others, we will see our freedoms and our relationship with God begin to slip away. Spending time in God’s word is the best way to develop a growing relationship with God.
In our pick verse today, Jesus moves to the area in the church of Thyatira that brings Him the greatest concern. The believers were willing tolerating a self-styled prophetess who, like Jezebel in the Old Testament, was leading God’s people into immorality and idolatry. Much like the Nicolaitans, this Jezebel probably taught that the person who had God’ Spirit within them was above judgement on moral issues. In this weird philosophy, the physical body was considered to be unimportant, and idols were deemed as nothing that must be avoided. Furthermore, participation in sexual sin and idol worship were considered accepted demonstrations of Christian liberty and personal choice. Wow!! The devil will always work around the edges of truth attempting to maintain somewhat of a biblical premises, yet also sprinkling in just enough falsehood to make it appealing. Accepting even slightly off-based teaching is equal to a full out rejection of God’s word, God’s will, God’s way, and God’s when for our lives.
