Welcome to Wednesday here at the SunRise Daily Scripture Blog. Our inspirational thought from the Daily Walk Bible is connected to the psalms of David. Nowhere in the Bible is the raw emotions of the human soul on display more than through the prayers of David. From shouts of joy to depths of anguish David lets his true feelings flood the throne room of Heaven. Yet, through each verse of heartbreak or heart song, David keeps coming back to praising the God of creation, whom David knows is in complete control of his life. How might we better praise God regardless of what we are facing today?
In our pick verse today from the book of Revelation, we are introduced to the first of many symbols John utilizes to put human words to kingdom scenes. Many interpreters believe that the twenty-four elders represent the church, which in turn are symbolic for the whole of God’s redeemed people enjoying their ultimate fellowship with Him in Heaven. The numbers may symbolize the twelve tribes of the Old Testament and the twelve apostles of Jesus in the New Testament. Others believe that they are exalted angels who continually praise God. Because they offer incense and present the prayers of the saints, they have been compared to the twenty-four priestly division under King David. In all regards these interpretations ultimately emphasize the majesty and dominion of God over all that exists.
