Good Thursday to you! Today marks the midway point of our journey through the month of June and is a subtle reminder that in another fifteen days we will have half of 2023 behind us. I have also noticed that a plethora of large tents are popping up on empty lots all around the O’Fallon area. Which is another reminder that we will soon be marking the fourth of July holiday and the unofficial center of the summer season. Wow! I am just now getting around to putting my coats and jackets in the back of the closet. I hope that in this fast-paced page turning time that we can make time for a daily connection with God. How goes it with your soul?
In our pick verse today, John continues to describe the heavenly scene as it unfolds before him. Lighting, thunder, and fire is imagery frequently associated with the presence and power of God. The seven torches represent the sevenfold spirits of God. In scripture, numbers can also have strong symbolic meanings. The number seven in the Bible, is noted for representing a sense of “fullness” or “completeness”. When connected with the sevenfold spirit in this verse it should be interrupted as being a direct reference to the perfection of the Holy Spirit as part of the trinity.
