Happy Monday to you! Hey friends, have you taken the time to sign up for the SunRise blood drive next Monday – July 24th from 3:30pm - 7:30pm? The need for blood always increases during the summer months, and this year is no different. Besides an increase in need, there is a corresponding decrease in giving often fueled by schools, colleges, and universities being out for the summer, as well as summer vacations from workplace donation sites. You can do your part by signing up through the SunRise events page on either the website or the app. Thanks for your consideration and donation.

In our pick verses today – yes, we are covering five verses today – we are introduced to one of the first set of numerical mysteries recorded by John in the book of Revelation. Much has been written about the exact meaning of the number of 144,000 in verse four. For us Wesleyan followers the interpretation tends to be more on the simple side than the complex. 144,000 is equal to the twelve tribes of Israel (verses 5-8) squared and multiplied by a thousand to signify an exceedingly great or divinely complete numbering of souls in Heaven. This number is not to be taken as an exact 144,000 inhabitants of Heaven but refers more broadly to the entire church. Actually, John will later refer to the inhabitants of Heaven as being a great sea of souls. Instead of focusing our time on numbers, John uses this imagery to emphasize that Christians are the true children of Israel. They/we are the descendants of Abraham by faith, and heirs of God’s promises.
