Thursday – July 27th – Revelation 8:8-9     -----

8:8) Then the second angel sounded: And something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood.
9) And a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
FREEDOM IS A TWO-SIDED COIN: ON ONE SIDE IS PRIVILEGE; ON THE OTHER, RESPONSIBILITY.*

Welcome to Thursday! Time for another SunRise public service reminder. This Sunday we are celebrating Family Ministry Worship at the 9:45am service. You will see kids and youth everywhere, including youth serving in the praise band, stepping up as greeters, ushers, and tech support people. The elementary kids will have themed worksheets that go along with the scripture for the day. What a great way to celebrate being part of the family of God.

In our pick verses today, John records the blowing of the second trumpet and the ensuing calamity that follows. This second plague to befall the earth destroyed a third of the life in the sea as well as a third of the ships on the waters. This is the first mention of actual loss of human life if we assume that these ships were occupied by people. It might be worth mentioning that some biblical scholars also interpret Revelation as being a coded message written by John against the Roman Empire. Imagine the economic calamity that would be created for an empire based in Rome that greatly depended on sea travel for goods and services. In this school of thought John is ensuring his readers that God is more powerful than the emperor and God is the one that is worthy of our full and complete worship.
