Howdy to this last Saturday in July. I hope you will have the opportunity to make the most of this warm weekend. Tomorrow is our third week of “Fresh Start” where we are exploring how God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things for the kingdom of Heaven. This week’s story of ordinary to extraordinary is one of my favorites in the Old Testament, the story of Gideon. God selects the least of the least, and against all human odds, uses this person to defeat a powerful warrior army. We will cover some of the “odds” that we face in life and discover how to let God work through us to do more than we could ever dream possible. Join us in-building or on-line.
In our pick verse today, the fourth plague is released upon the earth as the fourth angel blows its trumpet in Heaven. As you have probably noted by now that each plague becomes worse and more damaging to the delicate balance of nature. This fourth plague affects the sun, moon, and stars. The result of this calamity is that one-third of the daylight was gone, and darkness was eerily present. An ongoing biblical concept is that God represents light and Satan represents darkness. This plague is setting the stage for a temporary round of demonic activity that will come with the next three plagues. The unrepentant world will be harvesting the spoiled fruit of their disbelief in God.
