Monday – July 31st – Revelation 9:1-2 -----
9:1) Then the fifth angel sounded: And I saw a star fallen from heaven to the earth. To him was given the key to the bottomless pit.
2) And he opened the bottomless pit, and smoke arose out of the pit like the smoke of a great furnace. So the sun and the air were darkened because of the smoke of the pit.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
THOSE WHO LIVE IN THE LORD NEVER SEE EACH OTHER FOR THE LAST TIME.*
Good Monday to you! As we start off a new week and the last day of July 2023 our inspirational thought is perfect of this occasion. One of the great promises of the Gospel is that believers will live out eternity in the Kingdom of Heaven and in the presence of the almighty. While exactly what Heaven will be like and exactly what we will look like is nothing more than shear speculation. We do know that we will be reunited with other believers and that we will share the experience of Heaven together. This promise should be the foundation of our grieving experiences while still on earth. Yes, sadness and tears are part of a healthy grieving process, but as believers we grieve with hope based on God’s promise of Heaven.
In our pick verses today, John records the sounding of the fifth trumpet that resonates through Heaven and affects the inhabitants of earth. The first “woe” or terror occurred when a star fell to earth from the sky. There is much debate as to the identity of this star, some suggest a fallen angel, some say it is Jesus Himself, and others believe it to be a good angel. For the sake of argument, we will follow the thought process of it being a good angel. This “star” was given the key to the shaft of the Abyss in obedience of God’s directions to let loose calamity upon the earth. The Abyss, also called the Bottomless Pit, is the eternal destination of the wicked and the abode of all the demonic forces John observes that it is full of smoke and fire because when it was opened, darkness covered the earth from the thick smoke cloud. This is where our concept of Hell being a fiery furnace is formed.
Blessings
