Wednesday – August 2nd – Revelation 9:5 -----
9:5) And they were not given authority to kill them, but to torment them for five months. Their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
AS A NEGLECTED GARDEN TENDS TOWARD WEEDS, SO THE FAITHLESS LIFE TENDS TOWARD UNGODLY CHAOS.*
Hello Wednesday! A busy week is on tap for the SunRise family. The SunRise Youth Mission Trip to Hazard Kentucky starts their first full day of work. Two dozen youth and adults left early yesterday morning with excitement in their eyes and service planted in their hearts. The team will be busy serving in food pantries, visiting nursing homes, sharing the gospel in a low-income neighborhood, while the boys/men will be hosting a camp for elementary boys from the Hazard area. Please keep the team in your prayers this week. They will return home on Saturday evening.
In our pick verse today, John writes that the instructions given to the demonic hoard of locusts/scorpions were to torment but not kill those who were opposed to the message of the Gospel. The sting of a normal scorpion is painful, but seldom fatal to its victim. In Palestine the five dry months of the year were the season for locusts, but a normal attack lasted only a few days. These demonic hordes will ravage rebellious humanity for a much longer time than the usual locust plague. In an interesting side note. John’s use of the term scorpions was an intentional jab at those things to be deemed demonic. By the first century the Latin work “scorpio” was associated with astrology and the names attached to the Zodiac and horoscopes. John was announcing God’s condemnation of these non-biblical ramblings.
Blessings
