In our pick verse today, John continues to list the horrors that will befall the earth as God methodically brings it to a conclusion. You may already be feeling that this is heavy and heartbreaking stuff to read. Yes, it is, and it will only get worse as the next two plagues are unleashed. The gruesomeness of this verse speaks to the depths of the horrors to come. Conditions will be so bad that death will seem like the better choice and the only escape. It is difficult to imagine the nightmare of such unspeakable physical agony for those who remain in the world, longing to die yet remaining alive to experience even worse. The once proud and arrogant of the world are being humbled by the God, they insisted on denying exists.
