Sunday – August 6th – Revelation 9:9-10 -----
9) And they had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots with many horses running into battle.
10) They had tails like scorpions, and there were stings in their tails. Their power was to hurt men five months.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
THOSE WHO TRULY ASPIRE TO BE CHRISTLIKE SHOULD NOT BE SURPRISED WHEN THE MOB COMES TO CRUCIFY THEM.*
Good Sunday to you! What an awesome day to worship our Lord and creator. What a sobering inspirational thought for today. Popular Christianity is often tempted to only advertise the upside advantages of following Jesus. Following Jesus is wonderful, peace-filled, and at times an avenue for gathering unlimited blessings. When taken to extremes some theologies focus on the wealth and health and wellness gospel of prosperity. However, when we study the life of Jesus, we see the exact opposite trend occurring. Jesus met hardship, persecution, and suffering as a normal part of His ministry. Likewise, the early disciples experienced much of the same in their own faith journeys. As we worship God today, lets be sure that when we sing, pray, or talk about being “like” Jesus we understand the fine print of our statements.
In our pick verses today, John wraps up his description of the swarming locusts-like creatures unleashed on the earth. Next on John’s list are breastplates like those of iron, which further specifies the military preparation of this evil horde. Ancient Roman breastplates were usually leather and bronze, so iron breastplates were to be considered stronger and invincible. Their wings sounding like the thunder of horses creates an even greater fear of the power of this supernatural horde. In times of war, battle lines sometimes advance with as much noise as possible so as to strike fear in the enemies’ hearts. Finally, their tails with stingers gave them the power to kill which upgrades them from being normal locusts to being demonic in nature.
Blessings
