Monday – September 4th – Revelation 11:6 -----
11:6) These have power to shut heaven, so that no rain falls in the days of their prophecy; and they have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to strike the earth with all plagues, as often as they desire.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
A PROPHET DESERVES HONOR, NOT BECAUSE HE FORESEES THE COMING EVENT, BUT BECAUSE HE SEES THE MEANING WITHIN THE CURRENT EVENT.*
Yes, it is Monday, and it is Labor Day. For many folks this is the final long weekend to enjoy before weekend Thanksgiving. How are you planning to spend your time today? Outdoor activities seem to be on most everyone’s list of things to do. Picnics, hikes, lakes, pools, BBQ, and yard work are all great activities for an extra day off. In the busyness, or even the quietness, of your day, take the opportunity to thank someone who might still be on the clock today, after all it is a day, we give thanks for those who “labor” for us.
In our pick verse today, John adds even more details of the power God has given to the end-time prophets. The effective witness of the church is compared in this verse to the power God had displayed through Elijah and Moses. Elijah had the power to shut up the sky and so did these witnesses. The stated length of their prophecy is equal to the amount of time Elijah had stopped the rains in Judah. The second part of this verse recalls the power Mose used to turn the Nile into blood and strike his staff to bring about the plagues on Egypt. At the end of the ages some of His servants will demonstrate that the God of Elijah and Moses (remember the other two with Jesus at the transfiguration event) still rules from His heavenly throne despite the seemingly powerful forces of evil in the world.
Blessings
