Welcome to this Friday the 13th. Some folks have a tad bit of superstition when the 13th arrives on a Friday. I for one have resisted being one of those people, mainly because I have not any evidential proof to validate this date fear. But don’t ask me about full moon oddities. Our inspirational thought for today speaks to any challenges we might have with the number thirteen. When we base our faith in Jesus and allow the Holy Spirit to lead us along the paths of righteous, we have nothing to fear. Paul states in Romans 8 that if God is for us who or what can successfully stand against us. Regardless of the day of the week or date on the calendar God has got us covered.
In our pick verse today, John lifts up in his vision the interaction between the sea beast and the land beast. This second monster exists to assist and serve the needs of the first monster. He is used to further ensure that the remaining inhabitants of the earth openly worship the first beast. In one sense this beast is Satan’s counterpart to the Holy Spirt. Just as the Spirit leads believers to worship Christ, so this beast leads people to worship the Antichrist. John also draws a contrast between the Antichrist, whose fatal wound had been healed, and the true Christ that who from creation had a ministry to be slain for the world.
