Welcome to Sunday. Our inspirational thought once again fits perfectly for Sunday worship. While the associated reading in the Daily Walk Bible is Mark’s rendering of the resurrection of Jesus, it reminds us that every Sunday is a celebration of Jesus victory over death and the grave. If you are not familiar with how the Daily Walk Bible works, each day a set of scriptures are assigned to be read with a corresponding devotion. We have had the book we use since 2017 so each year the assigned reading stays with the date but flexes with the day of the week. So, for the last two Sundays to align with Matthew and Mark’s Easter stories is a great bonus. Hope you take time for an Easter worship celebration today.
In our pick verse we continue reading John’s vision of the deeds of the great earth beast. In these last desperate days, the earth will endure the fury of the Dragon, the Water monster, and the Earth monster. In later chapters John will also call the earth beast the “False Prophet”. This leads to the belief that at some point the earth monster takes on the appearance of a human individual so as to fool people into following, worshiping, and serving him. For the original readers of John’s generation, connecting this false prophet to the Roman Emperor was easily made. Throughout history both wicked governments and heretical religious groups have been associated with the works of this humanized beast. But taken as the pointer to end time events, the true false prophet is still yet to come. Certainly, the devil will employ various pseudo-false prophets that will attempt to distract believers until the final false prophet arrives. As Jesus stated, we must remain watchful and be on our guard at all times.
