16:9) And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
IT TAKES TWO SIDES TO MAKE A LASTING PEACE, BUT IT ONLY TAKES ONE TO MAKE THE FIRST STEP.*
Good Thursday and a great Thanksgiving Day to you and your clan! For some families (certainly not yours) the inspirational thought is a most appropriate way to jump start Thanksgiving Day/weekend. The “joy” of family holiday gatherings can be stress filled, awkward, and at times overboiling with tension. If family peace seems to be an historically illusive thing in your household, then scripture reminds us to look no further than ourselves as the initiator of the first step to peace. It may be successful, or it may not help one bit, but I can assure you if no measures of reconciliation are taken by either side, then no change will ever occur. God took the first step to restore our relationship with Him, without that step of grace we would be salvationless.
In our pick verse today, John continues to observe and write the results of the fourth bowl of God’s wrath poured out on the sun. This verse records some very important factual observations that cannot be easily dismissed. First, because of the intense heat from the sun people were being scorched to death. Second, even in their attempts to dismiss these catastrophic events as “acts of nature” people knew that all the punishments were coming from God. Third, even with all this information and understanding, they still chose to curse Him for sending it upon them. Fourth, they still refused to acknowledge God’s authority and sovereignty over them and the earth. Fifth, because of this refusal they would not confess their sins and seek salvation in the name of God. Their unwillingness to repent shows the level of the complete depravity of the people left on the earth as the world was ending.
